Make something pretty with leftovers

What to do… what to do? Say you’ve got leftover candy. I’m sorry, who has leftover candy… I mean, really?

Okay, we sometimes have leftover candy in the house. It’s usually hard candies, but yes, it’s there. When one of us says, ‘are you going to eat these? ‘Cause I’m going to toss them if you aren’t.’ They generally go in the trash. But hey, why not do something a little more fun?

I’m rambling because there isn’t a recipe. There are just “tips” if you will — find a smaller saucepan and put your unwrapped candies in. Put it on a low heat, keep it swirling. Play with the heat, notice where your hotspots are and don’t let anything set there for too long. Allow them to melt and notice when they begin to bubble, that’s when they’re ready. Have a silpat ready and spoon out the liquid onto the mat in any design you desire. Whenever you feel the liquid is getting harder to spoon, put it back on the heat for a touch.

Couple of things - be so very careful! Hot sugar is a dangerous thing. Not only will it burn, it will stick. Next, don’t worry about clean up. Just fill your saucepan up with water and let it sit. Water will make the sugar disappear like magic!
